Chapter on the Manner of Prayer – Another report that may mislead some into thinking it contradicts the previous two narrations
Hadith 1886
أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو خَلِيفَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا الْقَعْنَبِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ ، عَنْ شَرِيكِ بْنِ أَبِي نَمِرٍ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ ، يَقُولُ : " مَا صَلَّيْتُ وَرَاءَ أَحَدٍ قَطُّ أَخَفَّ صَلاةً مِنْ صَلاةِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَلا أَتَمَّ ، وَإِنْ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَسْمَعُ بُكَاءَ الصَّبِيِّ وَرَاءَهُ ، فَيُخَفِّفُ مَخَافَةَ أَنْ تُفْتَنَ أُمُّهُ " .
Shareek bin Abu Numair narrates: He heard Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) saying, "I have not performed prayer behind anyone who offered a prayer more concise and more complete than the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). Sometimes the Prophet (peace be upon him) would hear the sound of a child crying behind him, so he would shorten the prayer, fearing that the child's mother might fall into trial."
