Chapter on the Manner of Prayer – Clarification that clasping in bowing was at the beginning of Islam, then abrogated by the command to place hands on knees
Hadith 1883
أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو يَعْلَى ، حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ الطَّالَقَانِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ أَبِي خَالِدٍ ، عَنِ الزُّبَيْرِ بْنِ عَدِيٍّ ، عَنْ مُصْعَبِ بْنِ سَعْدِ بْنِ أَبِي وَقَّاصٍ ، قَالَ : كُنْتُ إِذَا صَلَّيْتُ ، طَبَّقَتْ ، وَوَضَعْتُ يَدَيَّ بَيْنَ رُكْبَتَيَّ ، فَرَآنِي أَبِي سَعْدٌ ، فَقَالَ : " كُنَّا نَفْعَلُ هَذَا ، فَنُهِينَا عَنْهُ ، وَأُمِرْنَا بِالرُّكَبِ " .
Mus'ab bin Sa'd bin Abi Waqqas narrates: When I used to perform prayer, I would do tatbeeq and place both my hands between my knees. My father, Sayyiduna Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him), saw me doing this and said: We used to do this before, then we were forbidden from it, and we were commanded to place (our hands) on the knees.
