Chapter on the Manner of Prayer – Report refuting the claim that al-A’mash did not hear this narration from al-Musayyib ibn Rafi’
Hadith 1879
أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُمَرَ بْنِ يُوسُفَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ الْعَسْكَرِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ ، عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ الْمُسَيِّبَ بْنَ رَافِعٍ ، عَنْ تَمِيمِ بْنِ طَرَفَةَ ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، أَنَّهُ دَخَلَ الْمَسْجِدَ فَأَبْصَرَ قَوْمًا قَدْ رَفَعُوا أَيْدِيهِمْ ، فَقَالَ : " قَدْ رَفَعُوهَا كَأَنَّهَا أَذْنَابُ خَيْلٍ شُمْسٍ ، اسْكُنُوا فِي الصَّلاةِ " .
Sayyiduna Jabir bin Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates this about the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him): He came to the mosque and saw some people raising their hands, so he said: "These people have raised their hands like the tails of unruly horses. You should remain in a state of calmness during prayer."
