Chapter on the Manner of Prayer – Clarification that Malik’s narration is a summary, with its story mentioned in the narration of Ubaydullah ibn Umar
Hadith 1868
أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَرُوبَةَ ، بِحَرَّانَ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَهَّابِ الثَّقَفِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ ، عَنْ سَالِمٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " أَنَّهُ كَانَ إِذَا دَخَلَ فِي الصَّلاةِ رَفَعَ يَدَيْهِ ، وَإِذَا رَكَعَ ، وَإِذَا قَالَ : سَمِعَ اللَّهُ لِمَنْ حَمِدَهُ . وَإِذَا قَامَ مِنَ الرَّكْعَتَيْنِ رَفَعَهُمَا إِلَى مَنْكِبَيْهِ " .
Salim narrates from his father: When he would start the prayer, he would raise his hands. When he would go into bowing (ruku‘), he would raise his hands. When he would say «سمع اللہ لمن حمدہ» (that is, when he would stand up from bowing), he would raise his hands. When he would stand up after two rak‘ahs, he would also raise both hands up to the shoulders.
