Chapter on the Manner of Prayer – Permissibility of raising the hands to the ears as described
Hadith 1863
أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو خَلِيفَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، عَنْ نَصْرِ بْنِ عَاصِمٍ ، عَنْ مَالِكِ بْنِ الْحُوَيْرِثِ " أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، كَانَ إِذَا كَبَّرَ رَفَعَ يَدَيْهِ إِذَا دَخَلَ فِي الصَّلاةِ حَتَّى يُحَاذِيَ بِهِمَا أُذُنَيْهِ ، وَإِذَا رَكَعَ ، وَإِذَا رَفَعَ رَأْسَهُ مِنَ الرُّكُوعِ " .
Sayyiduna Malik bin Huwairith (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that when the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) began the prayer, he would raise both his hands while saying the takbeer, until both hands reached the level of his ears. He would do the same when going into ruku‘ and when rising from ruku‘.
