Hadith 1857
أَخْبَرَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ سُفْيَانَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ عُلَيَّةَ ، عَنْ هِشَامٍ الدَّسْتُوَائِيِّ ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي قَتَادَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، قَالَ : " كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقْرَأُ بِنَا فِي الرَّكْعَتَيْنِ الأُولَيَيْنِ مِنَ الظُّهْرِ ، وَيُطِيلُ فِي الأُولَى ، وَيُقَصِّرُ فِي الثَّانِيَةِ " .
Sayyiduna Abu Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) would recite (Qur'an) in the first two units (rak'ahs) while leading us in the Zuhr prayer. He would make the first rak'ah long and the second one (relatively) shorter.
