Chapter on the Manner of Prayer – Report confirming the interpretation of Abu Sa’id’s narration
Hadith 1855
أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ خُزَيْمَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو كُرَيْبٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو خَالِدٍ الأَحْمَرُ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي قَتَادَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، قَالَ : " كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُطِيلُ فِي أَوَّلِ الرَّكْعَتَيْنِ مِنَ الْفَجْرِ وَالظُّهْرِ " . وَقَالَ : كُنَّا نَرَى أَنَّهُ يَفْعَلُ ذَلِكَ لِيَتَدَارَكَ النَّاسُ .
Sayyiduna Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) used to perform the first two rak‘ahs of Fajr and Dhuhr prayers at length. The narrator states: We think that he did this so that people could join (the congregational prayer).
