Chapter on the Manner of Prayer – Report indicating the obligation of recitation as previously described for those mentioned
Hadith 1853
أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ خُزَيْمَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْجَبَّارِ بْنُ الْعَلاءِ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ عَطَاءً ، يَقُولُ : سَمِعْتُ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ ، يَقُولُ : " فِي كُلِّ صَلاةٍ قِرَاءَةٌ " ، فَمَا أَسْمَعَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَسْمَعْنَاكُمْ ، وَمَا أَخْفَى عَلَيْنَا أَخْفَيْنَا عَنْكُمْ .
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: In every prayer there is recitation. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) would recite aloud in those prayers in which he made us hear, we make you hear; and in those prayers in which he kept it hidden from us, we keep it hidden from you.
