Hadith 1844
Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) led his companions in prayer. When he completed the prayer, he turned towards the people and said: Do you recite (Qur'an) behind your Imam when the Imam is reciting? The people remained silent. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) repeated this statement three times, then one person said, or perhaps the people said: We do so. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Do not do so. Each one of you should recite Surah Al-Fatihah in his heart. The wording of the narration: "Do not do so"—these are words of prohibition, but what is meant is to give a new ruling from the beginning, because the Arabs often use such expressions in their idioms.
Hadith 1845
Sayyiduna Imran bin Husain (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that a person recited (aloud) behind the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in either the Zuhr or Asr prayer. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Who among you recited Surah Al-A'la? One of those present said: I did. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: I knew that one of you was causing an obstruction for me.
