Chapter on the Manner of Prayer – Description of recitation in Maghrib prayer
Hadith 1832
أَخْبَرَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ سَعِيدِ بْنِ سِنَانٍ الطَّائِيُّ ، بِمَنْبِجَ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ الزُّهْرِيُّ ، عَنْ مَالِكٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، أَنَّ أُمَّ الْفَضْلِ بِنْتَ الْحَارِثِ ، سَمِعَتْهُ يَقْرَأُ : " وَالْمُرْسَلاتِ عُرْفًا سورة المرسلات آية 1 ، فَقَالَتْ : يَا عَبْدَ اللَّهِ ، ذَكَّرْتَنِي بِقِرَاءَتِكَ هَذِهِ السُّورَةَ ، إِنَّهَا لآخِرُ مَا سَمِعْتُ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَرَأَ بِهَا فِي الْمَغْرِبِ " .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that Sayyidah Umm Fadl bint Harith heard him reciting Surah Mursalat. She said: O Abdullah! Your recitation of this Surah has reminded me that I heard the last recitation from the tongue of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) of this very Surah; he recited it in the Maghrib prayer.
