Chapter on the Manner of Prayer – Report refuting the instruction to recite Al-Fatiha in Persian for those unable to recite it in Arabic
Hadith 1810
أَخْبَرَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ الأَصْفَهَانِيُّ بِالْكَرَخِ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُمَيَّةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا الْفَضْلُ بْنُ مُوَفَّقٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا مَالِكُ بْنُ مِغْوَلٍ ، عَنْ طَلْحَةَ بْنِ مُصَرِّفٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي أَوْفَى ، قَالَ : جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، إِنِّي لا أَسْتَطِيعُ أَنْ أَتَعَلَّمَ الْقُرْآنَ ، فَعَلِّمْنِي مَا يُجْزِئُنِي مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ . قَالَ : " قُلْ : سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ ، وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ ، وَلا إِلَهَ إِلا اللَّهُ ، وَاللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ ، وَلا حَوْلَ وَلا قُوَّةَ إِلا بِاللَّهِ " . قَالَ : هَذَا لِلَّهِ ، فَمَا لِي ؟ قَالَ : " قُلْ : رَبِّ اغْفِرْ لِي ، وَارْحَمْنِي ، وَاهْدِنِي ، وَعَافِنِي ، وَارْزُقْنِي " . فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " لَقَدْ مَلأَ يَدَيْهِ خَيْرًا " .
Sayyiduna Ibn Abu Awfa (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that a man came to the service of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), I do not have the ability to learn the Qur'an. Teach me something that will suffice in place of the Qur'an. The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Recite this. «سبحان الله والحمدلله والله أكبر ولا حول ولا قوة الا بالله» The man said: This is for Allah. What is there for me? The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Recite this: "O my Lord, forgive me, have mercy on me, guide me, grant me well-being, and provide for me." The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: This man has filled both his hands with goodness.
