Chapter on the Manner of Prayer – Report refuting the claim that Qatadah did not hear this narration from Anas
Hadith 1799
أَخْبَرَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ أَبِي غَيْلانَ الثَّقَفِيُّ ، وَالصُّوفِيُّ ، وَغَيْرُهُمَا ، قَالُوا : حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْجَعْدِ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، وَشَيْبَانُ ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ ، قَالَ : " صَلَّيْتُ خَلْفَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَأَبِي بَكْرٍ ، وَعُمَرَ ، وَعُثْمَانَ رِضْوَانُ اللَّهِ عَلَيْهِمْ ، فَلَمْ أَسْمَعْ أَحَدًا يَجْهَرْ بِ بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ " .
Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I have offered prayer behind the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him), Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), and Sayyiduna Uthman Ghani (may Allah be pleased with him), and I did not hear any one of them reciting «بِسمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ» aloud.
