Chapter on the Manner of Prayer – On the number of times one says “Allahu Akbar” in prayer
Hadith 1765
أَخْبَرَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ سُفْيَانَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ خَلادٍ الْبَاهِلِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاذُ بْنُ هِشَامٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ ، قَالَ : قُلْتُ لابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ : " عَجِبْتُ مِنْ شَيْخٍ صَلَّى بِنَا الظُّهْرَ فَكَبَّرَ ثِنْتَيْنِ وَعِشْرِينَ تَكْبِيرَةً ؟ قَالَ : تِلْكَ سُنَّةُ أَبِي الْقَاسِمِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " .
Ikrimah narrates: I said to Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him): I am astonished at an elderly man who, while leading us in the Zuhr prayer, said twenty-two takbirs. So Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas said: It is the Sunnah of Sayyiduna Abul Qasim (peace and blessings be upon him).
