Chapter on the Manner of Prayer – On the permissibility of choosing a specific spot in the mosque for most of one’s prayers
Hadith 1763
أَخْبَرَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْهَمْدَانِيُّ ، وَابْنُ خُزَيْمَةَ ، قَالا : حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا مُغِيرَةُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الْحِزَامِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي يَزِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي عُبَيْدٍ ، أَنَّهُ كَانَ يَأْتِي مَعَ سَلَمَةَ بْنِ الأَكْوَعِ ، إِلَى سُبْحَةِ الضُّحَى ، " فَيَعْمِدُ إِلَى الأُسْطُوَانَةِ دُونَ الْمُصْحَفِ ، فَيُصَلِّي قَرِيبًا مِنْهَا " ، فَأَقُولُ لَهُ : أَلا تُصَلِّي هَا هُنَا ؟ وَأُشِيرُ لَهُ إِلَى بَعْضِ نَوَاحِي الْمَسْجِدِ ، فَيَقُولُ : إِنِّي رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَتَحَرَّى هَذَا الْمَقَامَ .
Yazid bin Abu Ubaid narrates that he used to come to perform the Duha prayer with Sayyiduna Salamah bin Akwa’ (may Allah be pleased with him). Sayyiduna Salamah (may Allah be pleased with him) used to try to go towards that pillar which is before the Mushaf, and he used to perform prayer near it. I used to say to him that you will not perform prayer here, and I would point towards some other corner of the mosque. Then he would say: I have seen the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), he used to perform prayer at this place with special care.
