Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, narrates this statement of the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him: "The angels of the night and the day come among you in succession. They gather at the Fajr and Asr prayers. Then those angels who spent the night among you ascend, and (Allah Almighty) asks them, although He knows best, 'In what condition did you leave My servants?' They reply: 'We left them while they were performing prayer, and when we came to them, they were also performing prayer.'"
Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says: "In this hadith, there is a clear statement that the angels of the night descend when people are performing the Asr prayer, and at the same time, the angels of the day ascend. This is contrary to the view of the one who claims that the angels descend after the sun has set."
