Chapter on Virtue of the Five Prayers - Report refuting the claim that only Al-A’mash narrated this hadith.
Hadith 1726
أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْجُنَيْدِ ، بِتُسْتَرَ ، حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ ، حَدَّثَنَا بَكْرُ بْنُ مُضَرَ ، عَنِ ابْنِ الْهَادِ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ : " أَرَأَيْتُمْ لَوْ أَنَّ نَهْرًا بِبَابِ أَحَدِكُمْ يَغْتَسِلُ مِنْهُ كُلَّ يَوْمٍ خَمْسَ مَرَّاتٍ ، مَا تَقُولُونَ ، هَلْ يُبْقِي مِنْ دَرَنِهِ شَيْئًا ؟ " . قَالُوا : لا يَبْقَى مِنْ دَرَنِهِ شَيْءٌ . قَالَ : " ذَلِكَ مَثَلُ الصَّلَوَاتِ الْخَمْسِ ، يَمْحُو اللَّهُ بِهِ الْخَطَايَا " .
Sayyiduna Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: "What do you think, if there were a river flowing at the door of one of you and he bathed in it five times a day, what would you say about that? Would any dirt remain on him?" The people replied: "No dirt would remain on him at all." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "This is the example of the five prayers through which Allah wipes away sins."
