باب الأذان - ذكر البيان بأن المرء إذا سمع الأذان يستحب له أن يقول كما يقول المؤذن خلا قوله حي على الصلاة حي على الفلاح
Chapter on Adhan - Clarification that when hearing the adhan, one should repeat after the muezzin except for "Hayya ‘ala as-salah" and "Hayya ‘ala al-falah."
Hadith 1688
أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الصَّيْرَفِي ، بِالْبَصْرَةِ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ حَبِيبِ بْنِ عَرَبِيٍّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا مُجَمِّعُ بْنُ يَحْيَى ، قَالَ : جَلَسْتُ إِلَى أَبِي أُمَامَةَ بْنِ سَهْلٍ ، فَجَاءَ الْمُؤَذِّنُ ، فَقَالَ : " اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ ، اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ ، فَقَالَ أَبُو أُمَامَةَ مِثْلَ ذَلِكَ ، فَقَالَ : أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لا إِلَهَ إِلا اللَّهُ ، فَقَالَ أَبُو أُمَامَةَ مِثْلَ ذَلِكَ ، فَقَالَ : أَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ، فَقَالَ أَبُو أُمَامَةَ مِثْلَ ذَلِكَ " ، ثُمَّ الْتَفَتَ إِلَيَّ ، فَقَالَ : هَكَذَا حَدَّثَنِي مُعَاوِيَةُ ، عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ .
Majma’ bin Yahya narrates: I was sitting with Abu Umamah bin Sahl. The muezzin came and said «اللہ اکبر» «اللہ اکبر», so Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) said the same. The muezzin said «اشهد ان لا اله الا الله», so Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) said the same. The muezzin said «اشهد ان محمدا رسول اللہ», so Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) said the same. Then he turned to me and said: Sayyiduna Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated to me a hadith from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in this manner.
