Lady Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: There was a slave girl belonging to an Arab (tribe). Those people set her free, but she continued to live with them. Once, a girl from that tribe went out wearing a red necklace made of leather and jewels. That girl placed the necklace somewhere. A kite flew by; the necklace was lying there, and the kite thought it might be meat, so it snatched it up. The slave girl narrates: The people searched for the necklace, and when they could not find it, they accused me and searched me thoroughly, even to the extent of searching my private parts. The slave girl narrates: By Allah! I was standing with them when the kite flew by and dropped the necklace, which fell among them. The slave girl says: I said, "Here is the thing for which you accused me. You people thought so, but I was innocent of it. Here is the necklace." The slave girl narrates: Then she went to the service of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and accepted Islam. Lady Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: A tent was set up for this slave girl in the mosque. Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: The slave girl used to come to me and talk with me. Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) says: Whenever she came and sat with me, she would recite this verse: "The day of the necklace was one of the wondrous signs of my Lord; surely He saved me from the land of disbelief." Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) says: I asked the slave girl, "What is the reason that whenever you come and sit with me, you recite this verse?" Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: Then the slave girl told me the whole incident.
