Chapter on Mosques - Virtue of prayer in the Prophet’s Mosque over other mosques by one hundred prayers, except the Sacred Mosque.
Hadith 1624
أَخْبَرَنَا عِمْرَانُ بْنُ مُوسَى بْنِ مُجَاشِعٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ ، عَنْ مُغِيرَةَ ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، عَنْ سَهْمِ بْنِ مِنْجَابٍ ، عَنْ قَزَعَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ ، قَالَ : وَدَّعَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ رَجُلا ، فَقَالَ : " أَيْنَ تُرِيدُ ؟ " ، قَالَ : أُرِيدُ بَيْتَ الْمَقْدِسِ ، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " صَلاةٌ فِي هَذَا الْمَسْجِدِ أَفْضَلُ مِنْ مِائَةِ صَلاةٍ فِي غَيْرِهِ ، إِلا الْمَسْجِدَ الْحَرَامَ " ، قَالَ عُثْمَانُ : سَأَلَنِي أَحْمَدُ بْنُ حَنْبَلٍ عَنْهُ .
Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) asked a man, as he was bidding him farewell, "Where do you intend to go?" He replied, "I intend to go to Bayt al-Maqdis." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Offering one prayer in this mosque (i.e., Masjid Nabawi) is more virtuous than offering one hundred prayers anywhere else, except for Masjid al-Haram, which is a different matter." The narrator named Uthman bin Abu Shaybah says: Imam Ahmad bin Hanbal asked me about this narration.
