Chapter on Mosques - Report that might mislead some into thinking the report of Rabi’ah ibn Uthman is defective.
Hadith 1606
أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ قُتَيْبَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ مَوْهَبٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا اللَّيْثُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ ، عَنْ عِمْرَانَ بْنِ أَبِي أَنَسٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ ، عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ ، أَنَّهُ قَالَ : " تَمَارَى رَجُلانِ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ الَّذِي أُسِّسَ عَلَى التَّقْوَى ، فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ : هُوَ مَسْجِدُ قُبَاءَ ، وَقَالَ آخِرُ : هُوَ مَسْجِدُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " هُوَ مَسْجِدِي هَذَا " . قَالَ أَبُو حَاتِمٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ : الطَّرِيقَانِ جَمِيعًا مَحْفُوظَانِ .
Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: There was a dispute between two men regarding the mosque which was founded on piety. One person said: It refers to the mosque of Quba, while the other said: It refers to the mosque of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). So the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "It refers to this mosque of mine." (Imam Abu Hatim says:) Both of its chains are preserved.
