Chapter on Combining Two Prayers - Permissibility of doing minor tasks between combined prayers.
Hadith 1594
أَخْبَرَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ إِدْرِيسَ الأَنْصَارِيُّ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ ، عَنْ مَالِكٍ ، عَنْ مُوسَى بْنِ عُقْبَةَ ، عَنْ كُرَيْبٍ مَوْلَى ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، عَنْ أُسَامَةَ بْنِ زَيْدٍ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَهُ يَقُولُ : " خَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَوْمَ عَرَفَةَ ، حَتَّى إِذَا كَانَ بِالشِّعْبِ نَزَلَ فَبَالَ ، ثُمَّ تَوَضَّأَ وَلَمْ يُسْبِغِ الْوُضُوءَ ، فَقُلْتُ لَهُ : الصَّلاةَ ، فَقَالَ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " الصَّلاةُ أَمَامَكَ " ، فَرَكِبَ ، فَلَمْا جَاءَ الْمُزْدَلِفَةَ ، نَزَلَ فَتَوَضَّأَ فَأَسْبَغَ الْوُضُوءَ ، ثُمَّ أُقِيمَتِ الصَّلاةُ ، فَصَلَّى الْمَغْرِبَ ، ثُمَّ أَنَاخَ كُلُّ إِنْسَانٍ بَعِيرَهُ فِي مَنْزِلِهِ ، ثُمَّ أُقِيمَتِ الْعِشَاءُ ، فَصَلاهَا وَلَمْ يُصَلِّ بَيْنَهُمَا " .
Sayyiduna Usama bin Zaid (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: On the day of Arafah, the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) set out until when he reached the valley, he dismounted from his ride, relieved himself, then performed ablution but did not do it thoroughly. I requested him about prayer. He said: The prayer will be performed ahead. Then he mounted (his ride). When he reached Muzdalifah, he dismounted from his ride, performed ablution thoroughly, then the call for prayer (iqamah) was given, so the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) performed the Maghrib prayer. Then this person tied his camel at his place of stay, then the call for prayer (iqamah) was given for the Isha prayer, so the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) performed this prayer. He did not perform any (nafl) prayer between the two.
