Section on Prohibited Times - Clarification that the Companions prayed two rak’ahs before Maghrib while the Prophet was present.
Hadith 1589
أَخْبَرَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْهَمْدَانِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ عَمْرَو بْنَ عَامِرٍ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ ، قَالَ : " إِنْ كَانَ الْمُؤَذِّنُ إِذَا أَذَّنَ ، قَامَ نَاسٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِيبْتَدِرُونَ السَّوَارِيَ حَتَّى يَخْرُجَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَهُمْ كَذَلِكَ يُصَلُّونَ الرَّكْعَتَيْنِ قَبْلَ الْمَغْرِبِ ، وَلَمْ يَكُنْ بَيْنَ الأَذَانِ وَالإِقَامَةِ شَيْءٌ " .
Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: When the muezzin would give the call to prayer, the companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would get up and rush towards the pillars, so much so that when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would come, they would still be performing the two rak‘ahs before Maghrib, even though there was not much interval between the adhan and the iqamah.
