Section on Prohibited Times - The Prophet’s instruction to pray two rak’ahs before Maghrib.
Hadith 1588
أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ خُزَيْمَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَارِثِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الصَّمَدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْوَارِثِ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي ، حَدَّثَنَا حُسَيْنٌ الْمُعَلِّمُ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ بُرَيْدَةَ ، أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ الْمُزَنِيَّ حَدَّثَهُ ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ صَلَّى قَبْلَ الْمَغْرِبِ رَكْعَتَيْنِ ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : " صَلُّوا قَبْلَ الْمَغْرِبِ رَكْعَتَيْنِ " ، ثُمَّ قَالَ عِنْدَ الثَّالِثَةِ : " لِمَنْ شَاءَ " ، خَافَ أَنْ يَحْسِبِهَا النَّاسُ سُنَّةً .
Sayyiduna Abdullah Muzani (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) used to perform two rak‘ahs before Maghrib. Then he said: "You people should also perform two rak‘ahs before Maghrib." Then, for the third time, he said: (This command is for the one) who wishes to perform these two rak‘ahs. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) feared that people might consider it as a Sunnah.
