Hadith 1576
أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سَلَمْ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا حَرْمَلَةُ بْنُ يَحْيَى ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنِي عَمْرُو بْنُ الْحَارِثِ ، عَنْ بُكَيْرِ بْنِ الأَشَجِّ ، عَنْ كُرَيْبٍ ، مَوْلَى ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، أَنَّ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ ، وَعَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنَ الأَزْهَرِ ، وَالْمِسْوَرَ بْنَ مَخْرَمَةَ أرسلوه إلى عائشة ، فقالوا : اقرأ عليها السلام منا جميعا وسلها عَنِ الرَّكْعَتَيْنِ بَعْدَ الْعَصْرِ ، فَإِنَّا أُخْبِرْنَا أَنَّكِ تُصَلِّيهَا ، وَقَدْ بَلَغَنَا أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَهَى عَنْهَا ، قَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ : وَكُنْتُ أَضْرِبُ مَعَ عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ النَّاسَ عَلَيْهَا ، قَالَ كُرَيْبٌ : فَدَخَلْتُ عَلَيْهَا وَبَلَّغْتُهَا مَا أَرْسَلُونِي بِهِ إِلَى عَائِشَةَ ، فَقَالَتْ : سَلْ أُمَّ سَلَمْةَ فَخَرَجْتُ إِلَيْهِمْ ، فَأَخْبَرْتُهُمْ بِقَوْلِهَا ، فَرَدُّونِي إِلَى أُمِّ سَلَمْةَ بِمِثْلِ مَا أَرْسَلُونِي بِهِ إِلَى عَائِشَةَ ، فَقَالَتْ أُمُّ سَلَمْةَ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَنْهَى عَنْهَا ، ثُمَّ رَأَيْتُهُ يُصَلِّيهَا ، أَمَّا حِينَ صَلاهَا ، فَإِنَّهُ حِينَ صَلَّى الْعَصْرَ دَخَلَ وَعِنْدِي نِسْوَةٌ مِنْ بَنِي حَرَامٍ مِنَ الأَنْصَارِ ، فَصَلاهَا ، فَأَرْسَلْتُ إِلَيْهِ الْجَارِيَةَ ، فَقُلْتُ : قَوْمِي بِجَنْبِهِ ، فَقُولِي لَهُ : تَقُولُ أُمُّ سَلَمْةَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، إِنِّي سَمِعْتُكَ تَنْهَى عَنْ هَاتَيْنِ الرَّكْعَتَيْنِ ، فَأَرَاكَ تُصَلِّيهِمَا ، فَإِنْ أَشَارَ بِيَدِهِ فَاسْتَأْخِرِي عَنْهُ ، فَقَالَتِ الْجَارِيَةُ : فَأَشَارَ بِيَدِهِ ، فَاسْتَأْخَرْتُ عَنْهُ ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : " يَا بِنْتَ أَبِي أُمَيَّةَ ، سَأَلْتِ عَنِ الرَّكْعَتَيْنِ بَعْدَ الْعَصْرِ ، أَتَانِي نَاسٌ مِنْ عَبْدِ الْقَيْسِ بِالإِسْلامِ مِنْ قَوْمِهِمْ ، فَشَغَلُونِي عَنِ الرَّكْعَتَيْنِ اللَّتَيْنِ بَعْدَ الظُّهْرِ ، وَهُمَا هَاتَانِ " .
Kuraib narrates: Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), Abdur Rahman bin Azhar, and Miswar bin Makhramah sent him to Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) and said: Convey our greetings to her and ask her about the two rak‘ahs after ‘Asr, and also inform her that we have come to know that she performs these two rak‘ahs, while the narration has reached us that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade them. Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: I used to beat people along with Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) for performing these two rak‘ahs. Kuraib narrates: I went to Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) and conveyed to her the message that these gentlemen had sent me with. Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said: Ask Lady Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) about this. I returned to those gentlemen and informed them of Lady Aisha’s reply, so they sent me with the same message to Lady Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) that they had sent to Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her). Lady Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbidding this, then I also saw him performing these rak‘ahs. The time when he performed these rak‘ahs was when he came to me after performing the ‘Asr prayer. At that time, some women from the Ansar tribe of Banu Haram were present with me. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed these two rak‘ahs, so I sent a girl to him and instructed her: Stand beside the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and say to him that Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) is saying: O Messenger of Allah! I have heard you forbidding the performance of these two rak‘ahs, and now I am seeing you performing them. If the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) signals to you with his hand, then step back. The girl reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) signaled with his blessed hand, so I stepped back. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) explained: O daughter of Abu Umayyah! You have asked about the two rak‘ahs after ‘Asr. Some people from the tribe of ‘Abd al-Qays came to me on behalf of their people regarding Islam. They did not allow me to perform the two rak‘ahs after Dhuhr. These are the same two rak‘ahs.
