Chapter on Prayer Times - Clarification that the Prophet’s statement "No one on earth waits for it except you" refers to people of other religions, not Muslims.
Hadith 1536
أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الأَزْدِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا جَرِيرٌ ، عَنْ مَنْصُورِ بْنِ الْمُعْتَمِرِ ، عَنِ الْحَكَمِ بْنِ عُتَيْبَةَ ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، قَالَ : مَكَثْنَا ذَاتَ لَيْلَةٍ نَنْتَظِرُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لِعِشَاءِ الآخِرَةِ ، فَخَرَجَ عَلَيْنَا حِينَ ذَهَبَ ثُلُثُ اللَّيْلِ ، أَوْ بَعْدَهُ ، فَقَالَ حِينَ خَرَجَ : " إِنَّكُمْ تَنْتَظِرُونَ صَلاةً ، مَا يَنْتَظِرُهَا أَهْلُ دِينٍ غَيْرُكُمْ ، وَلَوْلا أَنْ تَثْقُلَ عَلَى أُمَّتِي لَصَلَّيْتُ بِهِمْ هَذِهِ الصَّلاةَ هَذِهِ السَّاعَةَ " ، قَالَ : ثُمَّ أَمَرَ الْمُؤَذِّنَ فَأَقَامَ ، ثُمَّ صَلَّى .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: One day we were waiting for the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) for the ‘Isha prayer. He came to us when a third of the night had passed, or perhaps a little after that. When he arrived, he said: "You are waiting for the prayer; no followers of any other religion are waiting for it except you. If I did not fear that this would be difficult for my Ummah, I would have led them in this prayer at this hour." The narrator states: Then he ordered the mu’adhdhin, who gave the iqamah, and the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) led the prayer.
