Prayer times: Refuting those who claim Asr must be prayed late
Hadith 1520
أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ سَلَمْ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا حَرْمَلَةُ بْنُ يَحْيَى ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنِي عَمْرِو بْنُ الْحَارِثِ ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ : أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ " يُصَلِّي صَلاةَ الْعَصْرِ وَالشَّمْسُ مُرْتَفِعَةٌ حَيَّةٌ ، فِيذْهَبُ الذَّاهِبُ إِلَى الْعَوَالِي فِيأْتِي الْعَوَالِي وَالشَّمْسُ مُرْتَفِعَةٌ " .
Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) would perform the Asr prayer while the sun was still high and bright. Then a person would go towards "Awali," he would reach "Awali" and the sun would still be high.
