Prayer times: The time when it is recommended to perform Asr prayer
Hadith 1517
أَخْبَرَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ سُفِيانَ ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا حِبَّانُ بْنُ مُوسَى ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ ، عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرِ بْنِ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ سَهْلِ بْنِ حُنَيْفٍ ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ أَبَا أُمَامَةَ بْنَ سَهْلِ بْنِ حُنَيْفٍ ، يَقُولُ: صَلَّيْنَا مَعَ عُمَرَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ الظُّهْرَ ، ثُمَّ خَرَجْنَا حَتَّى دَخَلْنَا عَلَى أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، فَوَجَدْنَاهُ يُصَلِّي الْعَصْرَ ، فَقُلْتُ: يَا عَمُّ ، مَا هَذِهِ الصَّلاةُ الَّتِي صَلَّيْتَ؟ قَالَ: الْعَصْرُ ، قُلْتُ: وَهَذِهِ صَلاةُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ؟ قَالَ: " هَذِهِ صَلاةُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الَّتِي كُنَّا نُصَلِّي مَعَهُ " . قَالَ أَبُو حَاتِمٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ: قَدْ رَوَى عَمْرُو بْنُ يَحْيَى الْمَازِنِيُّ ، عَنْ خَالِدِ بْنِ خَلادٍ ، رَجُلٍ مِنْ بَنِي النَّجَّارِ قَالَ: صَلَّيْتُ الظُّهْرَ مَعَ عُمَرَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ ، ثُمَّ دَخَلْتُ عَلَى أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، فَوَجَدْتُهُ يُصَلِّي الْعَصْرَ ، فَلَمْا انْصَرَفَ " ، قُلْتُ: أَيُّ صَلاةٍ صَلَّيْتَ؟ قَالَ: الْعَصْرَ ، فَقُلْتُ: إِنَّمَا انْصَرَفْنَا الآنَ مَعَ عُمَرَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ مِنَ الظُّهْرِ ، قَالَ " إِنِّي رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُصَلِّي هَكَذَا فَلا أَتْرُكُهَا أَبَدًا " .
Sayyiduna Abu Umamah bin Sahl bin Hunaif narrates: We performed the Zuhr prayer behind Umar bin Abdul Aziz, then we left from there and went to the service of Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him), and we found him performing the Asr prayer. I said: O uncle, which prayer is this that you have performed? He replied: This is the prayer of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), the prayer which we used to perform behind him (peace be upon him). (Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:) Amr bin Yahya Mazni narrated this report from Khalid bin Khallad, who is related to Banu Najjar. He narrates: I performed the Zuhr prayer behind Umar bin Abdul Aziz, then I went to the service of Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) and found him performing the Asr prayer. When he completed the prayer, I said: Which prayer have you performed? He said: Asr. I said: We have just come after performing the Zuhr prayer behind Umar bin Abdul Aziz. He said: I saw the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) performing this prayer in this manner, so I will never abandon it.
