Prayer times: Clarifying that the hotter it is, the more Dhuhr should be delayed
Hadith 1509
أَخْبَرَنَا الْفَضْلُ بْنُ الْحُبَابِ الْجُمَحِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْوَلِيدِ الطَّيَالِسِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو الْحَسَنِ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ زَيْدَ بْنَ وَهْبٍ ، يَقُولُ : إِنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَبَا ذَرٍّ ، يَقُولُ : كُنَّا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي سَفَرٍ ، فَأَرَادَ الْمُؤَذِّنُ أَنْ يُؤَذِّنَ بِالظُّهْرِ ، فَقَالَ لَهُ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " أَبْرِدْ " ، ثُمَّ أَرَادَ أَنْ يُؤَذِّنَ ، فَقَالَ لَهُ : " أَبْرِدْ " مَرَّتَيْنِ أَوْ ثَلاثًا ، حَتَّى رَأَيْنَا فِيءَ التُّلُولِ ، وَقَالَ : " إِنَّ شِدَّةَ الْحَرِّ مِنْ فِيحِ جَهَنَّمَ ، فَإِذَا اشْتَدَّ الْحَرُّ فَأَبْرِدُوا بِالصَّلاةِ " . قَالَ أَبُو حَاتِمٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ : أَبُو الْحَسَنِ عُبَيْدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ مُهَاجِرٌ كُوفِي .
Zaid bin Wahb narrates: He heard Sayyiduna Abu Dharr Ghifari (may Allah be pleased with him) saying: We were traveling with the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). The muezzin intended to give the call to prayer for the Zuhr prayer, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: Let it cool down. Then he intended to give the call to prayer, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: Let it cool down. This happened two or perhaps three times, until we saw the shadows of the hills. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The severity of the heat is part of the heat of Hell, so when the heat is intense, perform (the Zuhr) prayer at a cooler time. (Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:) Abu al-Hasan Ubaid bin Hasan is a Muhajir from Kufa.
