Prayer times: The reason Fajr was prayed at dawn at the start of this ummah
Hadith 1496
أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سَلَمْ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا الْوَلِيدُ بْنُ مُسْلَمْ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا الأَوْزَاعِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي نَهِيكُ بْنُ يَرِيمَ ، عَنْ مُغِيثِ بْنِ سُمَيٍّ ، قَالَ : " صَلَّى بِنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ الزُّبَيْرِ الْغَدَاةَ فَغَلَّسَ " ، فَالْتَفَتَ إِلَى ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، فَقُلْتُ : مَا هَذِهِ الصَّلاةُ ؟ قَالَ : " هَذِهِ صَلاتُنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَأَبِي بَكْرٍ ، وَعُمَرَ رِضْوَانُ اللَّهِ عَلَيْهِمَا ، فَلَمْا قُتِلَ عُمَرُ أَسْفَرَ بِهَا عُثْمَانُ رِضْوَانُ اللَّهِ عَلَيْهِ " .
Mughith bin Sami narrates: Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Zubair (may Allah be pleased with him) led us in the Fajr prayer in darkness. I turned towards Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) and I asked: Which prayer is this? He replied: This is our prayer performed following the example of the Prophet (peace be upon him), Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him), and Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him). When Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) was martyred, Sayyiduna Uthman Ghani (may Allah be pleased with him) began to perform it in the light.
