Sulaiman bin Buraidah narrates from his father: A man came to the service of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and asked him about the times of prayer. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Perform the prayers with us at these two times." When the sun declined, the Prophet (peace be upon him) performed the Zuhr prayer, then he performed the Asr prayer when the sun was still high, bright, and shining. Then he performed the Maghrib prayer after the sun had set, and the Isha prayer when the twilight had disappeared. The Fajr prayer he performed in darkness. When the next day came, the Prophet (peace be upon him) ordered Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him), so he gave the iqamah for Zuhr at a cool time, and he gave it at a well-cooled time. Then, by his order, he gave the iqamah for Asr when the sun was still bright; the Prophet (peace be upon him) performed this prayer a little later than the time he had performed it the previous day. By his order, Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) gave the iqamah for Maghrib a little before the twilight had disappeared, and by his order, he gave the iqamah for Isha after a third of the night had passed. By his order, he gave the iqamah for Fajr after it had become light. Then the Prophet (peace be upon him) asked: "Where is the person who asked about the times of prayer?" He replied: "O Messenger of Allah! I am here." The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "The time for your prayers is between what you have seen."
