Prayer times: Clarifying that performing obligatory prayers at their times is among the most beloved deeds to Allah
Hadith 1476
أَخْبَرَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ سُفِيانَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا شَيْبَانُ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ مُسْلَمْ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو إِسْحَاقَ ، عَنْ أَبِي الأَحْوَصِ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، قَالَ : قُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، أَيُّ الأَعْمَالِ أَحَبُّ إِلَى اللَّهِ ؟ قَالَ : " الصَّلَوَاتُ لَمْوَاقِيتِهَا " ، قُلْتُ : ثُمَّ أَيُّ ؟ قَالَ : " ثُمَّ بِرُّ الْوَالِدَيْنِ " ، قُلْتُ : ثُمَّ أَيُّ ؟ قَالَ : " ثُمَّ الْجِهَادُ " ، وَلَوِ اسْتَزَدْتُهُ لَزَادَنِي .
Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I asked, "O Messenger of Allah! Which deed is most beloved to Allah the Exalted?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "To perform the prayers at their prescribed times." I asked, "Then which one?" He said: "Then to show kindness to parents." I asked, "Then which one?" He said: "Then striving (jihad) in the way of Allah." (Sayyiduna Abdullah narrates) If I had asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) further, he would have given me more answers.
