Warning against abandoning prayer: Prohibition of deliberately missing Asr prayer
Hadith 1470
أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو خَلِيفَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا مُسَدَّدُ بْنُ مُسَرْهَدٍ ، عَنْ دَاوُدَ ، عَنِ الأَوْزَاعِيِّ ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي قِلابَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي الْمُهَاجِرِ ، عَنْ بُرَيْدَةَ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ : " بَكِّرُوا بِصَلاةِ الْعَصْرِ يَوْمَ الْغَيْمِ ، فَإِنَّهُ مَنْ تَرَكَ صَلاةَ الْعَصْرِ فَقَدْ حَبِطَ عَمَلُهُ " . قَالَ الشَّيْخُ : وَهِمَ الأَوْزَاعِيُّ فِي صَحِيفَتِهِ ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي قِلابَةَ ، فَقَالَ : عَنْ أَبِي الْمُهَاجِرِ ، وَإِنَّمَا هُوَ أَبُو الْمُهَلَّبِ عَمُّ أَبِي قِلابَةَ وَاسْمُهُ عَمْرُو بْنُ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنِ زَيْدٍ الْجَرْمِيُّ .
Sayyiduna Buraidah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I heard the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "When the sky is overcast with clouds, perform the Asr prayer early, because whoever misses the Asr prayer, his deeds are rendered void." The Sheikh states that Imam Awza'i made a mistake in his Sahifah by narrating this report from Yahya bin Abi Kathir from Abu Qilabah. He said that it is narrated from Abu Muhajir, whereas the narrator's name is Abu Muhallab, who is the uncle of Abu Qilabah, and his name is Amr bin Mu'awiyah bin Zayd al-Jarmi.
