Relieving oneself: Narration showing the prohibition of facing or turning back to the qiblah applies only in open areas, not in built toilets
Hadith 1421
أَخْبَرَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ سَعِيدِ بْنِ سِنَانٍ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ ، عَنْ مَالِكٍ ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ سَعِيدٍ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ حِبَّانَ ، عَنْ عَمِّهِ وَاسِعِ بْنِ حَبَّانَ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، أَنَّهُ كَانَ يَقُولُ : إِنَّ نَاسًا يَقُولُونَ : إِذَا قَعَدْتَ لِحَاجَتِكَ فَلا تَسْتَقْبِلِ الْقِبْلَةَ ، وَلا بَيْتَ الْمَقْدِسِ ، لَقَدِ ارْتَقَيْتُ عَلَى ظَهْرِ بَيْتِنَا ، " فَرَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى لَبِنَتَيْنِ مُسْتَقْبِلَ بَيْتَ الْمَقْدِسِ لِحَاجَتِهِ " .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: People say, "When you sit to relieve yourself, do not face the Qiblah or face Bayt al-Maqdis." However, once I climbed onto the roof of my house and I saw the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) relieving himself facing Bayt al-Maqdis.
