Wiping over leather socks and similar: Permitting wiping over socks if worn with sandals
Hadith 1338
أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ خُزَيْمَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ رَافِعٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا زَيْدُ بْنُ الْحُبَابِ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا سُفِيانُ ، عَنْ أَبِي قَيْسٍ الأَوْدِيِّ ، عَنْ هُزَيْلِ بْنِ شُرَحْبِيلَ ، عَنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ بْنِ شُعْبَةَ : أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " تَوَضَّأَ وَمَسَحَ عَلَى الْجَوْرَبَيْنِ وَالنَّعْلَيْنِ " . أَبُو قَيْسٍ الأَوْدِيُّ هُوَ : عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ ثَرْوَانَ .
Sayyiduna Mughira bin Shu’bah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) wiped over his socks and shoes while performing ablution. The narrator Abu Qais Awdi’s name is Abdur Rahman bin Tharwan.
Hadith 1339
أَخْبَرَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ سُفِيانَ ، حَدَّثَنَا هُدْبَةُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمْةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا يَعْلَى بْنُ عَطَاءٍ ، عَنْ أَوْسِ بْنِ أَبِي أَوْسٍ ، قَالَ : " رَأَيْتُ أَبِي تَوَضَّأَ فَمَسَحَ عَلَى نَعْلَيْهِ ، فَأَنْكَرْتُ ذَلِكَ عَلَيْهِ ، فَقُلْتُ : أَتَمْسَحُ عَلَى النَّعْلَيْنِ ؟ فَقَالَ : رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَمْسَحُ عَلَيْهِمَا " .
Sayyiduna Aws bin Abu Aws (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I saw my father wiping over his shoes while performing ablution. I objected to his action and said: Are you wiping over your shoes? He replied: I saw the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) wiping over them.
