Wiping over leather socks and similar: Clarifying that "three days and a night" includes the nights
Hadith 1331
أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو يَعْلَى ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى بْنِ سَعِيدٍ الْقَطَّانُ ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنِ الْحَكَمِ ، عَنِ الْقَاسِمِ بْنِ مُخَيْمِرَةَ ، عَنْ شُرَيْحِ بْنِ هَانِئٍ ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي الْمَسْحِ عَلَى الْخُفِينِ ، قَالَ : " لِلَمْسَافِرِ ثَلاثَةُ أَيَّامٍ وَلَيَالِيهِنَّ ، وَلِلَمْقِيمِ يَوْمٌ وَلَيْلَةٌ " . قَالَ أَبُو حَاتِمٍ : مَا رَفَعَهُ عَنْ شُعْبَةَ إِلا يَحْيَى الْقَطَّانُ ، وَأَبُو الْوَلِيدِ الطَّيَالِسِيُّ .
Sayyiduna Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates from the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) regarding wiping over the socks. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "For the traveler, three days and three nights, and for the resident, one day and one night." (Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:) This narration has been transmitted as a marfu' hadith from Shu'bah only by Yahya al-Qattan and Abu Walid Tayalisi.
