Chapter on Wiping Over Leather Socks and Others – Clarification that the command to wipe over leather socks is a concession and ease, not an obligation
Hadith 1322
أَخْبَرَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبَّادٍ الْغَزَّالُ بِالْبَصْرَةِ ، حَدَّثَنَا زِيَادُ بْنُ أَيُّوبَ ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي غَنِيَّةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ، عَنِ الْحَكَمِ ، عَنِ الْقَاسِمِ بْنِ مُخَيْمِرَةَ ، عَنْ شُرَيْحِ بْنِ هَانِئٍ ، عَنْ عَلِيٍّ ، قَالَ : " رَخَّصَ لَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْمَسْحَ عَلَى الْخُفِينِ ثَلاثَةَ أَيَّامٍ لِلَمْسَافِرِ ، وَيَوْمًا وَلَيْلَةً لِلْحَاضِرِ " .
Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) granted us the concession that a traveler may wipe over the leather socks for three days, and a resident for one day and one night.
