Chapter on Wiping Over Leather Socks and Others – Clarification that wiping over leather socks for residents and travelers is allowed for minor impurity, not major impurity
2 hadith
Hadith 1320
Zirr bin Hubaish narrates: I presented myself before Sayyiduna Safwan bin Assal Muradi. I said: I have some confusion in my mind regarding wiping over the leather socks (khuffs); did you hear the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) say anything about wiping over the leather socks? He replied: Yes! The Messenger of Allah commanded us that when we are in a state of travel (the narrator says, perhaps these are the words) when we are travelers, after defecating or urinating (while performing ablution), we should not remove our leather socks for three days and three nights (the narrator is unsure, perhaps these are the words) do not take them off, except in the case of major ritual impurity (janabah), for which the ruling is different.

Zirr bin Hubaish narrates: I presented myself before Sayyiduna Safwan bin Assal Muradi. He inquired: Why have you come? I replied: For the acquisition of knowledge. He said: The angels spread their wings for the seeker of knowledge, being pleased with his quest. I said: I have some confusion in my mind regarding wiping over the socks (khuffain) after defecation and urination (while performing ablution). You are a companion of the Messenger of Allah. I have come to you to ask about this matter. Did you hear anything about this from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)? He replied: Yes, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to command us, when we were in a state of travel (the narrator is unsure, perhaps these are the words) when we were travelers, not to remove our socks for three days and three nights, except in the case of major impurity (janabah). However, in the case of defecation, urination, or sleep (when ablution is broken and we perform ablution), we would not remove them. I asked him: Did you hear the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) mention anything about desire? He replied: Yes, once we were traveling. A Bedouin called out to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in a loud voice, "O Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him)!" So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied to him in a voice similar to his (loudly), and said: "Come forward." We said to that Bedouin: "Woe to you! Lower your voice. You have been forbidden from this (from speaking loudly before the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him))." That person said: "What is your opinion about a man who loves a people but does not join them?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "He will be with those whom he loves on the Day of Resurrection." (The narrator states) After that, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) continued to converse with us until he said: "There is a door towards the west, whose width is the distance of forty years. Allah created it for repentance on the day He created the heavens and the earth, and it will not be closed until the sun rises from that (western) side."
