Chapter on Skins of Dead Animals – Command to benefit from the skins of dead animals if they are tanned
Hadith 1282
أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سَلَمْ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا الْوَلِيدُ بْنُ مُسْلَمْ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا الأَوْزَاعِيُّ ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، مَرَّ بِشَاةٍ مَيْتَةٍ ، قَالَ : " هَلا اسْتَمْتَعْتُمْ بِجِلْدِهَا ؟ " قَالُوا : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّهَا مَيْتَةٌ ، قَالَ : إِنَّمَا حُرِّمَ أَكْلُهَا " .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by a dead goat and said: Why do you not benefit from its skin? The people said: O Messenger of Allah! It is dead. The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Its consumption has been declared unlawful.
