Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: One of the noble wives of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had a goat that died. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to her, she informed him about it. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Why do you not benefit from its skin? She said: O Messenger of Allah! Is it permissible to use the skin of a dead animal? The narrator says: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) recited this verse: "Say, I do not find within that which was revealed to me [anything] forbidden to one who would eat it unless it be a dead animal..." He recited the verse to its end (then he said): People are not eating it. Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: Then that woman sent the skin, it was tanned, and a water bag was made from its skin. Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: I saw that water bag even after a year.
