Abdur Rahman bin Abzi narrates: A man asked Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), he said: I become impure due to janabah and I do not find water (so what should I do?). Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Do not pray (until you find water). Sayyiduna Ammar said: Do you not remember, in the blessed time of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), you and I participated in a military expedition with the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). (So I rolled in the earth) This matter was mentioned to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), so he said: It would have been enough for you, then he struck his blessed hand on the earth, blew on his palms, and wiped his face and both arms. (Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says: The Prophet’s (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) sufficing with one vessel for the face and both hands while teaching tayammum is a clear statement that it is permissible to perform another obligatory act with that by which one obligatory act has been performed. Its form is that it is obligatory for the person performing tayammum to wipe his face and both hands. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) has permitted for both hands in tayammum that which remains (of dust) on his palm after performing the obligatory act for the face, so it is correct that the earth by which the obligatory act of one vessel has been performed, it is permissible to perform the obligatory act of another vessel with it in the second time. So when this is correct in tayammum, it will also be correct in wudu.)
