Chapter on Water – Prohibition of bathing from major impurity in less than two qullahs of water out of concern for remaining impurity
Hadith 1252
أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سَلَمْ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا حَرْمَلَةُ بْنُ يَحْيَى ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنِي عَمْرُو بْنُ الْحَارِثِ ، عَنْ بُكَيْرِ بْنِ الأَشَجِّ ، أَنَّ أَبَا السَّائِبِ مَوْلَى هِشَامِ بْنِ زُهْرَةَ ، حَدَّثَهُ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ ، يَقُولُ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " لا يَغْتَسِلُ أَحَدُكُمْ فِي الْمَاءِ الدَّائِمِ ، وَهُوَ جُنُبٌ " ، فَقَالُوا : كَيْفَ نَفْعَلُ يَا أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ ؟ قَالَ : يَتَنَاوَلُهً تَنَاوُلا .
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "No person should perform ghusl (ritual bath) in standing water while he is in a state of janabah (major ritual impurity)." The people asked: O Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him), then what should we do? He replied: A person should take water from it (and go to another place to perform ghusl).
