Chapter on Water – Report refuting the claim that bathing from major impurity in stagnant water makes it impure if less than ten by ten
Hadith 1248
أَخْبَرَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ أَبِي غَيْلانَ الثَّقَفِي ، بِبَغْدَادَ ، حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الأَحْوَصِ ، عَنْ سِمَاكِ بْنِ حَرْبٍ ، عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، قَالَ : اغْتَسَلَ بَعْضُ أَزْوَاجِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِنْ جَفْنَةٍ ، فَجَاءَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَغْتَسِلُ مِنْهَا أَوْ يَتَوَضَّأُ ، فَقَالَتْ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، إِنِّي كُنْتُ جُنُبًا ، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِنَّ الْمَاءَ لا يُجْنِبُ " .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: One of the noble wives of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed ghusl from a vessel, then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came and began to perform ghusl or perhaps wudu from that vessel. The woman said: O Messenger of Allah! I was in a state of janabah. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Water does not become impure due to janabah.
