Chapter on Water – Report refuting the claim that this narration refers only to running water, not stagnant water
Hadith 1242
أَخْبَرَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ سُفِيانَ ، حَدَّثَنَا حِبَّانُ بْنُ مُوسَى ، أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ ، عَنْ سُفِيانَ ، عَنْ سِمَاكِ بْنِ حَرْبٍ ، عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، أَنَّ امْرَأَةً مِنْ أَزْوَاجِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ اغْتَسَلَتْ مِنْ جَنَابَةٍ ، فَجَاءَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، يَتَوَضَّأُ مِنْ فَضْلِهَا ، فَقَالَتْ لَهُ ، فَقَالَ : " إِنَّ الْمَاءَ لا يُنَجِّسُهُ شَيْءٌ " .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: One of the wives of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) performed ghusl (ritual bath) for janabah. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) came and began to perform wudu (ablution) with the water she had left over. That woman said to him: (This is the leftover water from my ghusl.) The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Nothing makes water impure.
