Chapter on Ghusl for Jumu’ah – Third report indicating that ghusl for Friday is not obligatory
Hadith 1232
أَخْبَرَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ سُفِيانَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا شَبَابَةُ بْنُ سَوَّارٍ ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ الْغَازِ ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " إِنَّ لِلَّهِ حَقًّا عَلَى كُلِّ مُسْلَمْ أَنْ يَغْتَسِلَ كُلَّ سَبْعَةِ أَيَّامٍ يَوْمًا ، فَإِنْ كَانَ لَهُ طِيبٌ مَسَّهُ " .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates this statement of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him): "It is Allah's right upon every Muslim that he should perform ghusl (ritual bath) once a week, and if he has perfume, he should also apply it."
