Chapter on Rules for the Junub – Permission for a person in a state of major impurity to sleep before ghusl if he performs ablution first
Hadith 1215
أَخْبَرَنَا الْفَضْلُ بْنُ الْحُبَابِ الْجُمَحِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا الْقَعْنَبِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا لَيْثُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، أَنَّ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ سَأَلَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : أَيَرْقُدُ أَحَدُنَا وَهُوَ جُنُبٌ ؟ فَقَالَ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " نَعَمْ إِذَا تَوَضَّأَ " .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) asked the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him): Can any one of us sleep in a state of janabah (major ritual impurity)? The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Yes, when he performs ablution (wudu), (then he can sleep).
