Hadith 1209
Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) used to visit all his wives in a single night. At that time, he had nine wives. (Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:) Hisham Dastawai has narrated this report from Qatadah: "The number of those wives was eleven." Whereas Sa'id has narrated from Qatadah that it is mentioned in the narration: At that time, he had nine wives. (Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:) Hisham Dastawai has narrated this report from Qatadah: "The number of those wives was eleven," whereas Sa'id has narrated from Qatadah that "at that time, the number of those wives was nine." As for the narration transmitted by Hisham, Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) mentioned the action of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) according to the time when he arrived in Madinah Munawwarah. At that time, he had eleven wives. Whereas in the narration transmitted by Sa'id from Qatadah, Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) mentioned the time which was the last period of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in Madinah Munawwarah, when he had nine wives. The reason is that the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) performed this action several times. It is not that he did it only once.
