Chapter on Ghusl – Clarification that a menstruating woman is instructed to follow up ghusl with a perfumed cloth only
Hadith 1200
أَخْبَرَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ سُفْيَانَ ، حَدَّثَنَا حُمَيْدُ بْنُ مَسْعَدَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْفُضَيْلُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ ، حَدَّثَنَا مَنْصُورُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، خَبَّرَتْنِي أُمِّي ، أَنَّهَا سَمِعَتْ عَائِشَةَ ، تَقُولُ : إِنَّ امْرَأَةً سَأَلَتْ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، عَنِ الْحَيْضِ كَيْفَ تَغْتَسِلُ مِنْهُ ؟ قَالَ : " تَأْخُذِي فِرْصَةً مُمَسَّكَةً ، فَتَتَوَضَّئِينَ بِهَا " . قَالَتْ : كَيْفَ أَتَوَضَّأُ بِهَا ؟ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " تَوَضَّئِينَ بِهَا " . قَالَتْ : كَيْفَ أَتَوَضَّأُ بِهَا ؟ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " تَوَضَّئِينَ بِهَا " . قَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ : فَعَرَفْتُ الَّذِي يُرِيدُ ، فَجَبَذْتُهَا إِلَيَّ ، فَعَلَّمْتُهَا .
Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: A woman asked the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) about menstruation, how she should perform ghusl (ritual bath) after it. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: Take a piece of cotton with musk on it and purify yourself with it. She asked: How should I purify myself with it? The Prophet (peace be upon him) replied: Purify yourself with it. Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: I understood what the Prophet (peace be upon him) meant, so I pulled the woman towards me and explained the method to her.
