Chapter on Ghusl – Description of the three handfuls of water for one performing ghusl from major impurity
Hadith 1197
أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ مُكْرَمٍ الْبَزَّارُ ، بِالْبَصْرَةِ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ عَلِيٍّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَاصِمٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا حَنْظَلَةُ بْنُ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ الْقَاسِمَ بْنَ مُحَمَّدٍ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ عَائِشَةَ ، تَقُولُ : " كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَغْتَسِلُ فِي حِلابٍ مِثْلَ هَذِهِ ، وَأَشَارَ أَبُو عَاصِمٍ بِكَفَّيْهِ ، يَصُبُّ عَلَى شِقِّ الأَيْمَنِ ، ثُمَّ يَأْخُذُ بِكَفَّيْهِ يَصُبُّ عَلَى سَائِرِ جَسَدِهِ " .
Sayyida Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) used to perform ghusl in a halab. (This refers to the vessel in which the milk of a she-camel is collected.) Its size was such that Abu Asim indicated it with both his hands. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) would pour water on his right side, then he would take water in both hands and pour it over his body.
