Chapter on Ghusl – Clarification that when a husband and wife both need ghusl, the woman should pour water on his hands first, then they both bathe
Hadith 1192
أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ خُزَيْمَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عِمْرَانُ بْنُ مُوسَى الْقَزَّازُ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَارِثِ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ الرِّشْكِ ، عَنْ مُعَاذَةَ الْعَدَوِيَّةِ ، قَالَتْ : سَأَلْتُ عَائِشَةَ : أَتَغْتَسِلُ الْمَرْأَةُ مَعَ زَوْجِهَا مِنَ الْجَنَابَةِ مِنَ الإِنَاءِ الْوَاحِدِ جَمِيعًا ؟ قَالَتْ : " نَعَمْ ، الْمَاءُ طَهُورٌ لا يَجْنُبُ ، وَلَقَدْ كُنْتُ أَغْتَسِلُ أَنَا ، وَرَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي الإِنَاءِ الْوَاحِدِ ، أَبْدَأُهُ فَأُفْرِغُ عَلَى يَدِهِ مِنْ قَبْلِ أَنْ يَغْمِسَهُمَا فِي الْمَاءِ .
Mu’adhah ‘Adawiyyah narrates: I asked Sayyidah ‘Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her): Can a woman perform ghusl of janabah with her husband from the same vessel, while both of them bathe together? Sayyidah ‘Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) replied: Yes, water is pure; janabah does not affect it. I and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to perform ghusl from the same vessel. I would pour water over your (the Prophet’s) hand before you put your hand into the water.
