Chapter on Nullifiers of Ablution – Clarification that touching raw meat does not require ablution
Hadith 1163
أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عُمَيْرِ بْنِ يُوسُفَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ عُثْمَانَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا مَرْوَانُ بْنُ مُعَاوِيَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا هِلالُ بْنُ مَيْمُونٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عَطَاءُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ اللَّيْثِيُّ ، عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، مَرَّ بِغُلامٍ يَسْلُخُ شَاةً ، فَقَالَ لَهُ : " تَنَحَّ حَتَّى أُرِيَكَ ، فَإِنِّي لا أَرَاكَ تُحْسِنُ تَسْلُخُ " . قَالَ : فَأَدْخَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَدَهُ بَيْنَ الْجِلْدِ وَاللَّحْمِ ، فَدَحَسَ بِهَا حَتَّى تَوَارَتْ إِلَى الإِبْطِ ، ثُمَّ قَالَ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " هَكَذَا يَا غُلامُ فَاسْلُخْ " . ثُمَّ انْطَلَقَ فَصَلَّى ، وَلَمْ يَتَوَضَّأْ ، وَلَمْ يَمَسَّ مَاءً .
Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by a boy who was skinning a goat. He said to him, "Step aside, I will show you, because I have noticed that you are not skinning it well." The narrator states: Then the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) placed his hand between its skin and flesh. He inserted it inside until it reached the armpit, then he said, "O boy, skin it like this." Then the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) went away. He performed prayer and did not perform ablution again, nor did he touch water.
